The DF movement is deeply saddened to see the increasing attacks on transgender rights in the UK, particularly when those attacks are affecting young people.
We recognise that the leadership of Girlguiding believes it is compelled to act in response to recent legal judgments and challenges. However, removing young people from spaces where they feel safe and supported, through no fault of their own, is deeply harmful. We are disappointed that this is the course Girlguiding has chosen, and we firmly believe that a more compassionate and inclusive approach is both possible and necessary. Trans children belong with their friends. This is not just the word of the Woodcraft Folk, but what Girl Guides across the UK want. The recent protests across the UK organised by Guiders Against Trans Exclusion have been a powerful reminder of this. We stand in solidarity with their message and would like to make our members and friends aware of upcoming protests to get involved with.
DFs continues to stand by our members and affirm our dedication to trans inclusion, acceptance and appreciation. We are a historically co-educational and queer inclusive organisation from our founding and as a result the trans community has always been a big part of the DF movement. We have always actively opposed queerphobic rhetoric throughout our history and continue to today.
The trans community has always existed in DFs and we will always continue to support them. We say no to trans exclusion.
